Introduction to Living, Day Two

This is the building I live in. It's a 9 floor tower with four apartments on each floor. I got lucky and mine is on the first floor, but there are elevators so it's easy to go from floor to floor. These towers are made to withstand Typhoon winds and a lot of the walls in my home are concrete so it makes it hard to hang pictures. Typhoons are pretty common here during the summer months.

This is the most decorating we can do with the front :)

This is my lovely version of a station wagon, the Toyota Ipsum. It's the perfect family vehicle! It can seat up to 8 people, but when you need more room the back seats fold down. It's also got an Ipod jack! Yay! There is also a GPS, but it's all in Kangi, so we have no clue how to use it. Another nifty feature that most bigger cars here have are the sensors. You just turn it on and it will start beeping at you when you get too close to something. Perfect for me because the roads here are so small I always think Im going to hit something.

I LOVE this little place! There are Family Marts all over the island. It's kind of a Japanese version of a convenience store. You will find fresh donuts, breads, plenty of bento boxes, all sorts of chips, candy, drinks, and precooked foods like some spicy chicken balls Chris got. At least we think they were chicken. The lady that worked there didn't speak English. They also have, of course, convenience items like razors, diapers, wipes, pens, pencils, toilet paper, ect. Sean loves the oversized cheeto-like snacks in all sorts of different flavors varying from banana to shrimp! I got him a couple corn flavored ones. I got a strawberry flavored drink that reminded me of Sobe's Strawberry Daquiri drink. I also got a snack sized Green Tea flavored ice cream! Yummy!

I love the little characters you see everywhere! All different and some funny!

  1. Gary wants to know if you still see the kids walking to school hand in hand with backpacks. He was there back in 76-77. He says if you ever get homesick go shopping at Kadena. Love the blog by the way! Fun to see!
